Balance Staff Question "Click" to Login or Register

Would any one know what this balance staff is for.. I have a bunch of bottles of staffs, unlabeled of course, and have not seen on like this. It has a rounded cut out through the hub part..Any clues?? Maybe it's not a balance staff..

John,

At first glance it looked like a cylinder escapement staff but the cutout is in the hub area and it's not hollow. I don't have a clue!

John,

Thats what I was thinking at first, but another bottle has cylinder staffs. There are about 10 of these mixed in with "regular" looking staffs..Any way to figure out what staffs in these unlabeled bottles go with what. All appear in great condition...

It is definitely not a cylinder staff. It appears to be a friction-fit staff, and I am guessing it may be from an inexpensive pin-lever escapement (dollar watch) or perhaps even from a New England duplex.
