Welcome Aboard John!

If I understand correctly those smooth papers had and probably still have a gazillion uses. From using while handling parts to wrapping parts and other things up in them. Unlike cleansing tissues they are lint free so as to leave nothing intrusive behind.

Perhaps others might be able to expand on this further.

Welcome John,
As Lindell says they have a million uses, and take it from one that learned the hard way, and used a kleenex once. It only takes one time to learn that lesson. It took me forever to get the tiny fibers off the watch parts I wrapped in the kleenex and will never do it again.

Watch tissue is a handy little item to have around. You will find a million uses for it too.

Again, Welcome to the board!
