Hamilton Gr 986 shipper "Click" to Login or Register

Does anyone have an easy way to reattach the shipper in a Hamilton 6/0 grade 986? The durned thing is held in by a shoulder pin, threaded into it from the other side of the plate. The shoulder screw is plenty long enough to grab with a pin vise for screwing in, but the shipper is practically impossible to hold centered over the hole on the opposite side of the plate.

I am about to go try a piece of rodico to hold it in place, but I dislike using that stuff on a clean movement, because it often leaves residue and/or little tiny bits that manage to get in nasty places.

Any other suggestions?

Well, much to my chagrin, I broke down and did what I hate - I held it in place with a piece of rodico. After I got the screw started, and was reasonably certain it was not cross-threaded, I removed the rodico, and swiped the area with a dab of acetone, followed by alcohol. Near as I can see, I didn't leave any gook behind, but it still makes me nervous.
