Mike: This is not a scientific term, but a name given to a style of watch made in Liverpool. They have very large jewels and the click is on the top plate.

Some other signs of a Liverpool made watch might be a daisy like design around the balance jewel and arrows ofted described as crows feet on the regulator. If you can find one, get a copy of Kemp's book "The Fusee Lever Watch."

A few of the 'Liverpodlian's' have a small window on the balance cock making the balance motion visible with closed dust cover. They are called 'fenestrated'.
