Hi folks,
I thought it might be of interest...
I found this movement complete with dial at a flea market, the seller had apparantly scrapped it for the gold!!! I felt like crying, but I bought it for a few coppers, hoping that one day I may find an original case.
Dial.

Movement

Well my luck didnt stop there. I found another Cal 53 made just a couple of years before mine. The seller was also contemplating on scrapping because of the damage to the case and movement.
I had to buy it, now being restored .
I´ll post when the watch has been completed.

Nice catch Werner, hope the luck keeps flowing in for you, those IWC Cal's are currently fetching on eBay around $300 US - uncased - even non runners with busted bits!

I managed to pick half a dozen up myself before prices went ballistic .........

Best regards

John

Hi John, thanks for the pricing, nice to know!
My Goldsmith who is doing the case tells me he will be finished with it next week, by that time the movement will have had a revision done to it, so Im looking foreward for the return of the watch.
Regards

Werner

Werner, I can add a photo of one of mine to this topic.
Similar movement, but screw set jewelling to the centre wheel only.
This was a case orphan too!
I've half a dozen others which are IWC's by SS&Co (Stauffer), all of which have a full set of screw set jewels.

Well John, here´s the finished product.
The case could do with some spit and polish, but apart from that, I´m totally satisfied.
