I noticed that two of the patents list a Laverne N. Cobb as co-inventor. I saw in other post that Mr. Cobb worked for Ball.

I found that Mr. Laverne N. Cobb was born April 8, 1863 in New York & in 1920 census was living in Lakewood, Cuyahoga, Ohio and listed as Superintendent Watch Co.

In 1892 he is listed as a watch maker.

Gerald,

Great job! I went to the patent office and looked up the text on the pierced hands. The application was filed 3-22-95 and granted rather quickly in July!

As 601 is the only 936 I have ever seen with the pierced hands, given Ball's propensity to waste no time in applying for patents, I am inclined to think that the hands on 601 should really be spade type as seen on the other 936's.

No way I am disparaging number 601 Ball-Hamilton watch. It is wonderful.

Ball-Hamilton numbers 603 and 608 have the hands somewhat as seen in the 1893 patent. the ball is located a bit further back on the hand.

happy hunting
