HELLO, MY NAME IS TIM AND I AM A NEW MEMBER. MY MEMBER NUMBER IS 1725 AND THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ASKING A QUESTION AND I NEED SOME HELP. MY QUESTION IS--I HAVE A 950B WITH SERIAL #29912 AND STAR CASE MODEL 17 WITH CASE NUMBER P297769. MY QUESTION IS ARE THESE CASE AND MOVEMENT NUMBERS CORRECT TO THIS MOVEMENT NUMBER AS THE ORIGINAL AND WHAT YEAR WOULD THIS FALL UNDER? I'M THINKING MAYBE 1964 TO 1966 BUT NOT SURE. I CAN'T FIND ANY DATA THIS HIGH, MAYBE NOT LOOKING IN THE RIGHT PLACE. MY BEST REGARDS,TIM.

Congratulations on finding this site. And thank you for joining. The $1.00 per month will bring the highest return on your money than you can imagine. As for as your question I believe you might of left out a letter of the serial #. I'm sure some of the Hamilton Wiz kids will respond to you here shortly.

A photo of the movement would be wonderful. But just be where that they can not have a lot of megapixels.

Your watch mvmt should have an "S" to begin the serial number. Always include complete serial numbers and include pictures when possible.

It sounds like your combination is possibly correct and would be from 1963-1965 era. It's pretty hard to say as the Gelson list stopped before the late models were made so about all we have to go by is boxed examples from back then as to original combos.

Welcome to the horological online study club !!

bb

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLIES, I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND INPUT. I ENJOYED READING YOUR COMMENTS AND I DID MAKE SOME MISTAKES IN MY POST, ACTUALLY I WILL BLAME IT ON MY WIFE, SHE PROOFREAD AND WE MUST BOTH BE BLIND, AND THEN WE BOTH OVER LOOKED THE SUBJECT OF 992B INSTEAD OF THE 950B. WELL I GUESS WE WILL CHALK THAT ONE UP TO A PRACTICE RUN. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GET US A CAMERA BUT WE DONT HAVE ONE RIGHT NOW. YES THE MOVEMENT DOES HAVE AN #S29912--CASE #P297769. WILL DO BETTER NEXT TIME!!!! ANY OTHER REPLIES WILL BE READ AND APPRECIATED, BEST REGARDS--TIM

WELCOME ABOARD TIM POOVEY!

I agree with all that Gene and Buster shared above.

Your Hamilton 950B movement S29912 in Case 17 number P297769 is right in line with others we have been compiling. As an example I have this one...

950B / S29403 in Case 17 number P297889 Dial Melamine MM 23-J (LVR Collection)

I had mine estimated as being 1965 production which agrees with Buster's and your thoughts. See if there are any marks of a red rubber-stamp inside you case-back, many of them have it. The dial on mine which is close to yours is marked "Hamilton Railway Special 23 Jewels" and that is what is I would anticipate finding on yours.

Lindell

Wink

Later Hamilton 950 RRS 23-Jewel dial...

Tim,

That’s great your watch’s numbers are so close to the one Lindell has.

Welcome to IHC185,

THANKS LINDELL AND RICHARD. LINDELL, MY DIAL IS THE EXACT SAME DIAL AS YOUR PICTURE AND MY CASE COVER DOES HAVE THE RED RUBBER STAMP--COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT THE RED STAMP MEANS? YOUR DIAL LOOKS GREAT AND I WISH THE DIALS WERE NOT MELAMINE SO WE COULD CARRY THEM MORE OFTEN. I AM PROUD TO BE A IHC185 MEMBER. BEST REGARDS, TIM
