Why did you have to post that watch I always find myself wanting your listings your pictures have a way of drawing a buyer in. I know I will not win this but whoever will get it sure won't get it cheap.
HI Sham is there a 14k marking? If not it is 10K. It by the way is among the best engraved 18s Box hinges I have seen in 40 years, jist beautiful. Geno

I think it is a shame that the engraving has been removed. This is a fantastic item and the more of it's history that is known the more interesting it becomes. That's my thought anyway.

There may be a certain logic in their using 10K Gold for such an intricate design because it would be some 40% harder and therefore not wear as quickly. What do you think?
No matter to me, I've rarely seen such a beautiful case. What a treat!

Lindell and Friends, I don't mind a bit in revealing that I'm one very fortunate person to be the high bidder on Sham's incredible watch.
I've been monitoring this topic ever since Sham first posted it and I must admit the photos of this unique and beautiful watch case along with the extremely praiseful comments by other chapter members in this thread "spurred" me on to try and get this watch. Now I can't wait to complete the transaction with Sham and get the watch to see it in person!
While it seems the watch case appears to be a one-of-a-kind work of art and most probably a custom order made for a very special person, like a railroad executive or someone like that, nothing has really been said about the movement itself. Does anyone have any information concerning this particular private label movement or the name "A. Claus"? I see where in his "Beginning to End" gold book Bill Meggers makes a reference to at least one 18 size Illinois watch with the name "A. Claus" on the movement and dial. Maybe someone out there may have seen other private label watches or have done some Internet research on this particular individual's name. If so, perhaps they could help shed some light on the origin of the case? Naturally, any information would be very much appreciated.
Well, I must go for now. I have an auction to pay for!!! This is a great Internet Chapter and my best regards to all!
