I have a nice 18s 23 jewel Special Railway.A while back Dave Abbe showed how the Hampden barrel jewels were only for show, and it sure makes an already sharp looking movement look even better with that huge gold raised jewel setting on the top plate.My question is, since Hamilton pretty much ripped off the Hampden 18s design,( I mean no offence to the Hamilton collectors)does the 23J 946 also have the same motor barrel with the non-functional jewel setup?I also have a 940 and a 17 J 936, both have I think non-jeweled motor barrels, but I know from pictures that the 946 has a large gold upper barrel arbor jewel setting, like the Sp'l.
