I couldn't resist, and I have bought this grade 50, 16s, 15j of 1882: it looks so different from the other Elgins I have. Any remark about this grade ? Thanks all

One other thing Mario, I learned this the hard way, if you disassemble the movement to clean it, there is a pin that gos completely through the movement to move the winding wheel from the winding position to the setting position, if you do not realize it is there it will fall out & be lost forever. As I said I speak from experience on that topic.

I said before in this column that I really like these early 16 size watches. I think they are a beautiful little kinetic sculptures. Elgin also made an 18 size like this. I assume you know that this model converts from open face to hunting (or the other way around), but the watch has to be disassembled to do that. That is sometthing distinctive about it. The setting device is also really funky, I think. Pull the lever out and watch closely what happens to the works when you set it. This nickel movement should clean up nicely.

Hi, Tom,thanks for your precious remarks. I did realize that this watch was peculiar at first glance, I didn't know why, but looked sooo appealing. The routine checks with "the site", elginorg, and "the book", "The complete guide", do confirmed the thing, but I was going to try to get it anyway: sometimes I find a watch that I MUST buy, like the Army 992B with Canadian Montgomery dial I have recently got, or a Benson with an incredible Longines movement ... I lost tonight.

Steve, a very pinpointing image "beautifil little kinetic sculptures"! I really think that this one is going to sit in my collection for quite a long time ...

Mario, you have a very special early Railroad adjusted watch. This is a Lever set 15 Jewel Adjusted "grade 50". 36,000 were mode in 34 production runs from s/n 603001 - 6436000. I would recommend that you carefully restore it. I am sending you some extra information about the convertible watch.

Dave, pleasure reading you. BTW the parts come in today, but I've been rather busy and I haven't informed neither you nor Dannielle ... you know those days when it seems that everyone is patting on your shoulder with a question ... silly, in the average. Well it's 10:45 pm local time (we are not yet in DST) and I'm still live, a success.
