Illinois 16s "Edgewood"??

Its a 17J OF,LS,4 position 2 tone... Never seen or heard of this one. Photo is lousy (phone cam) but it's a good runner after servicing.
Can anyone elaborate and educate me on this one !
Thanks, Robin

Robin the Edgewood is a private label watch. It was made in 1915 is a Model 9 grade 706 of which 29,125 were made like these but no one knows how many were private label marked such as the Edgewood.

It shows to be a double roller.

regards,
bb

Robin, Congratulations on your find. There are several very significant value-adders for this watch;

1. It is a late "True Bridge" Movement which places it above many "Railroad Grade" movements which were not such highly finished plate sets.

2. The very obvious finish treatment to the top plates is of the highest caliber with all them pre-damaskeened. THEN all were fully Gold Plated and again Carefully re-damaskeened with the highest quality harmonic designs to give an exceptional "art" to an already fabulous true bridge movement.

3. The lever setting 4-position finishing of the watch allowed it to entreat a markedly respectable "railroad" Quality touch.

4. The very rare Illinois logo design on the bridge plate tells the story of the Factory's declaration for the special entreatment this watch has enjoyed in its manufacture.

The Grade "706" association to this movement is more to the effect of the design drawn from a parts set for a 4 position lever setting model 9 movement which is in this case even slightly more special because only the very late true bridge versions were equipped with double roller escapements and the short-lived modification using reverse Jewel mounting screws on the balance Cock.

I would bet the number made to be under 1,000, and in fact probably more like 100-500. In presentable condition the collectible value (presently) to an Illinois W.Co. Historian dedicated to the caretaking of these extra special watches should easily be 3-4 times the "street" value of about $250.00.
