Waltham Sol "Click" to Login or Register

One of the things that I like about watch collecting,is that you don't have to have a lot of money to enjoy and collect antique watches. I haven't had much money to spend on watches lately, and have had to sell almost all of my higher end watches to live in this present economy. I'm not complaining at all, there are lots of folks a lot worse off than I have ever been, and I am thankful that I live in this country, where there are opportunities to engage in such things as watch collecting, even on my budget. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on so.

Just picked up this nice kinda rare 18s Waltham Sol. One star rarity in the book. Unusual,in that the 7 jewel model is worth more than the 17 jewel model. Sun on the dial, sun inside the case, and Sol on the movement. I did my clean and polish routine, and it now runs great and has been keeping time within 15 seconds a day. Brass or gold filled train, and pretty crisp details on the back cover. Some odd kinda purple stains on the movement plate, looks like fingerprints, that I couldn't get off,but maybe someday I'll get the hang of cleaning those plates properly.

Very nice, Cecil! I have wanted one for myself, but haven't had any luck so far. If I'm not mistaken, they were made for export to Central and/or South America. I especially like the dial and unusual second hand!

I'm sure others will chime in about how to clean that purple stain from the plate. I don't think I have ever seen that before. It would be interesting to know what may have caused it.

Nice job on a nice Waltham, Cecil! The 16s Sols are also pretty cool....I'm glad to hear that someone else besides myself has to collect on a "low/no" budget. In this day and age,it's getting harder to stay afloat, let alone do this.It would be nice to go back in time and buy watches at 1890's prices.Sombody needs to set up a time machine!

Picked up this Waltham Sol on ebay. The guy charged me $15 to ship and it came in the mail sliding around inside a paper padded envelope. But, it runs or tries to!

Very nice Cec'l. No doubt about the originality of case and dial to the movement. I like what I see in your Sol!
