"Cherry picking" is a common practice in estate lots of this type however. I've been hired to do it on two different watchmaker estates. The family wanted me to snipe out the best examples of highly-jeweled railroad watches, solid gold cases, etc. before the remainder of the estate was sold as a single lot.
