Michael P. McNameeElgin 571 Dial Question
I have a question for the Elgin experts:
I have a 571, movement serial number P799858 (ca. 1952-53), that has what appears to be an enamel BW Raymond "dp" dial. Pictures of front and back are shown below.
Then, I have a very late 571, movement serial number I385326 (ca. 1955), that has a similar-looking dial but it appears to be metal, not enamel. It is marked "Swiss" on the back. Pics below.
Query: Is the dial on the second watch original, or is it a later replacement dial?

Theodore J. Brown Sr.Mike, the second metal dial appears to be a reproduction, possibly from S. LaRose when they were in business. It looks a good quality repro.

Michael P. McNameeThanks Theodore. I understood from an earlier post by Lindell that the later Raymond dials used a "melamine-like" substance. If those later dials lasted about as well as regular melamine dials, then I guess it would make sense that this one would have needed replaced at some point.
Appreciate your interest in my post, Theodore.

Buster BeckI was trying to remember if S.LaRose handled the BWR dials with the "D/P" symbol, and I believe they did. Seems like they were $40 back in the day.
It looks good to me and I would put it back together and be perfectly content with it

regards,
bb

Michael P. McNameeI'll do just that, Buster. Unfortunately, I still need a case for it, because its original Star 3058 case has an incorrect and mangled bow, and over several months I've been unable to find a replacement bow.
Based on the late movement serial #I385326, I understand that a Keystone J. Boss 3055, or a Star 10K YGF 3058, 3059 or 3156 case would be appropriate. If anyone has a decent one of these they'd like to part with via sale, I'd be eternally grateful . . .

David E. Booth, Jr.I have an old La Rose newsprint "flyer" - they used to send them out monthly - this particular one is for October, 1987 - and yes, they did carry a repro BWR dial. Buster's memory is pretty good. Flyer says "Special this month only $25.00. Reg. $40.00"

Lindell V. Riddle
That's right!
I recognize that dial from the "SWISS" marking shared with all the LaRose Replacement Dials, they had them for all the popular makes. If David could take a picture of his ad and post it, that would be very helpful.

Michael P. McNameeThat would be terrific. Thanks David and Lindell! And thanks for your input too, Ted!
