I have a size 18 Waltham in a coin hunter AWWCO case. It is worn but serviceable and very usable. I did not realize it had a frosted movement in it. S/N 3308008. I have never had a frosted movement so I don't know if they are any more or any less collectable. It has 15 jewels. I have about $88 dollars in it. It has a broken balance staff or foot jewel or both. Is it worth putting enough time and money in it to get it running? I can always drop a running movement into the case.
Thanks,
Harry

Yes, a frosted movement Waltham 1883 in this condition is worth re-staffing and restoring.

Harry I agree with David. He did in fact do a really nice job on my frosted 15j 1883 Waltham for me. I am not a great fan of the 1883 Walthams, probably beacuse there are so many, but the scarcer frosted models are some of the most elegant movements out there. Mine actually keeps time to within 1 minute +- a week and that is just fine.

Hello Deacon,

How are you doing? Thanks for the info. I don't collect "Waltham's" per say but I will pick one up every now and then if I like the demaskeen.I did not know this one was frosted. I bid on it for the hunter case. What a surprise when I opened the back and saw it was frosted and in it's original case (IMHO). I did note when I bid that I had never seen a model 83 with that pattern before.
