I recently was given a little table mm micrometer. It has an adjustable table on it that I have never seen before. It was a basket case and I now have it assembled and it is accurate. I also received a American Webster & Whitcomb lathe (with all the collets) that was frozen and I now have it working great. It came with an attachment that I do not know what it is.
Also if anyone has a booklet on the lathe would you let me know.
Thanks
Patrick

Patrick-
That's a Crocker jig for stoning gravers. The graver is clamped in the part with the multiple adjustments, and the "T" rides on the bench, giving a fixed angle to sharpen the graver.

Bob

Now that you mention it, thats exactly what it is. I could see it as I was reading your explanation. What is used to hold the jig or how is it mounted?
I'm still baffled by the little table on the micrometer.
Thanks Bob.

Nice micrometer. I couldnt think of a use for one before I got mine. Now I cant understand what took me so long to get one. Its a great tool to have when doing balance staffs as a lot of them can be in the wrong wrapper/bottle when you get them.
That table looks like it will be helpful for holding things to be measured while you are doing it. Like when measuring a shaft on a gear. Wish mine was like that.

The jig is for use with a bench stone. The graver contacts the stone, and the "T" slides on the bench. There's a good picture in Perkins' book on the lathe.

Bob
