Friends,

Here is one of my newest additions to my 12 size collection. I think it is a real sweetie. Do any of the experts have some info on this nice example? I want to say thank you in advance for all your help and info.

Thanks,

John

John,
Quite a few of the Time King 405 models were made, Its difficult to be accurate how many were made as the run could be for 1000 watches and a few 100 of that run may be Time King. Your Serial No. 4920XXX is from a run of 2000. I have serial No’s. 4920136 and 4920942 in my records, they have Illinois Watch Co. only on the movements.
I believe the Time King’s may all have had the wavy striped pattern that is on your movement, although the lettering Time King changed positions on the movements.

John, I notice that the whip spring and screw from the regulator on the balance cock is missing, if you e-mail your address to me I’ll send you one and you can have it fitted.

Jim,

Thank you so much for the information and the offer, the info has been sent. A very thoughtful guesture indeed. I was wondering would you like the full number from my movement so you can add it too your data base?

Tom/John,
Before my statement about the wavy striped pattern comes back and bites me, I have just lately started to record the movement patterns along with the serial numbers. It could well be that the size 12 Time Kings in the 405 and 406 grades all have the wavy lined pattern. I know that the name Time King was on lots of other grades, all don’t have this pattern.
John,
Can you give me the full serial number of your watch?

Here is a picture of a 12 size 17 jewel Illinois that is spread to a 14 size. I just picked this up this weekend. I also have the walnut box it came in and the certificate showing the serial number of the case and movement. The movement is housed in the proper "The Springfield Watch" 25 year gold filled case.

Beautiful set, Keith. These factory-cased watches with grade numbers in the 500s are quite nice, especially with all the extras like yours.

By the way - regarding the Time King, how many have that name on the dial? That is a nice touch.

I would like to thank Lin Riddle for help he gave me. The information he provided detailed the watches history.

Keith, I got an empty GF case a couple years ago that was 12/14S with the Springfield hallmark on the cuvette. I knew the case was for an Illinois, but always wondered what specific watch would have gone into it. Now I know. Thanks.

Hi All

I found another one of these 12 size 17 jewel Illinois spread to 14 size pocket watch. Check out the different markings on these two same grade 506's. This one is a PL marked "The Cowell & Hubbard Co.". Any info on this one time Cleveland area jewelry store?

Regards
Keith

Cowell & Hubbard Co. were Samuel H. Cowell born about 1849 in England & A. T. Hubbard born about 1848 in Massachusetts.

This is from the 1881 Cleveland City Directory.
