For the 20 years I have been collecting watches, I always believed the South Bend Watch Co. was the only watch manufacturing company in Indiana. While recently looking through my new "Complete Price Guide to Watches", I discovered Smith D. French watch company was in Wabash, IN 1866 -1878. Over that period, they only produced about 70 movements so no wonder I never heard of them. Book values range from $10,315. to $31,500. Very interesting. So I guess from now on I might refer to S.B. Watch Co. as the only "successful" watch company in Indiana. Does anyone know anything about Smith D. Smith or any other Indiana watch companies?
