Hi All,

I have a Howard N size series VII serial#224753 watch that has the hound on it to denote unadjusted, all the books I have say this should be the case, but on the balance cock it has "adjusted" engraved around the the back of the cock. Also, the jewel count is marked on this one, yet all the other ones I have seen on the net do not have the jewel count marked on them. Just curious if anyone has seen this before, or knows why this was done at the factory? All the serial numbers match-up.

Thanks to All.

All Howard's are interesting, some much more than others !!

The "hound" denotes adjusted to isochronism but not to temperature or positions.

Generally speaking, any Howard watches marked "adjusted" were adjusted to Heat/Cold/Iso/& 6 Positions. Movements adjusted only to isochronism carried either no markings at all, or a hound symbol after 1885. Movements adjusted to both isochronism and temperature ["HCI"] were marked "Heat & Cold" and/or carried a horse symbol after 1885. Movements fully adjusted to temperature, isochronism, and positions [all6-"HCI6P"] were marked "Adjusted" and carried a stag symbol after 1885.

We will delight in seeing mug shots of your Howard and then a better evaluation would be forthcoming. Original watches in original cases are few and far between, and ones with interesting markings and/or pristine examples are especially scarce.

I vaguely remember something about those marked "Adjusted" on the edge of the balance bridge but my mind is cloudy on the who/what/why/& where. However there are several well versed Howard collectors on site that can thrill & delight Big Grin

regards,
bb
