A 992b dial problem "Click" to Login or Register
posted
Hi Hi
I am helping a friend who has a 992b. The watch is near and dear to him and he would like it running. The watch went through the washing machine a couple of years ago.
I have taken it apart and the only rust of of any concern was the broken balance staff which I am going to replace.
The problem I have is that the melamine dial has broken off of its feet. Other than that the dial is in very good shape and I would like to use it as they are quite pricey.
What would be a good way to reattach the dial? Is there a way to reattach the feet? Since the dial is a plastic I dont think soldering is the way to go, but would epoxy glue work?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe someone with a lot more knowledge will chime in but it is my understanding that melamine dials are painted metal dials not plastic. Certainly if you are good enough and you can make a template accurate enough you could possibly solder it back in place or glue it. Then you will need to remember that you did that to the dial so if your friend sales it in 10 or 15 years he will need to disclose it.

Of course the easiest way is to run down to Wal-Mart and by a pack of glue dots (small) foe $5 and dot them on.

Of course the correct way would be to purchase another dial. I know where a model 168 is for $60. Let me know if your interested and I'll look it up and send you the link.
