I have a question about Hamilton Watch Co...What was the biggest reason Hamilton closed down in 1969...Sales???
Hamilton US domestic production ceased in 1969. They continued on importing Swiss movements and parts and were sold in 1974 to Swiss holding company SSIH, a forerunner of the Swatch Group.
I should also mention even before 1969 some production was being shifted to Switzerland. Hamilton purchased a couple of Swiss manufactures,i.e. Buren and Huegenin. Above all was the drive to reduce labor costs.
