I got this as a bare bones movement. I was wondering how many of the 23 jewel movement were produced as jeweled barrel before the motor barrel types were introduced. I'm assuming the flat Illinois, double sunk arrows in dial is what I need. I only have a single sunk, arched Illinois dial, which will do for now. Does anyone know what this dial was originally used on?? Thanks in advance for any information you may have.

4110 Model 9 internally jeweled barrel versions of the 23J Bunn Special were made in 20 separate runs from s/n2593501 in 1913 to 3694800 in 1920. These were beautifully done and I hold their fit and finish as probably being equal or better than most other (already fine) Illinois railroad watches.

These 23 J rayed pattern BS movements were produced with both gold and red engraving. The gold engraved watches are the earlier ones and yours is from the second run.
I have a SS dial like the one pictured and it's fronting, and correct for, a Sangamo Special.

Thank you for your information. I like the watch, and will keep on the lookout for a correct dial. I will also keep looking out for a 19j Sangamo special movement to use that dial on (dream on kid).
