Ebay purchase for $90: 16s, 17J Illinois Getty.
About 1897 the seller said. Dial labeled C. Hartdegen & co, Newwark, N.J. The movt is also inscribed. Came in a Hamilton salesman case. The movement rattles inside it like an empty stomach.

The movement runs on and off, needs a good cleaning.

The movement is not running and I will be putting it for sale tomorrow. If no takers, back it goes.

Good money after bad in the making? Looks like a project -- or worse if that's corrosion inside. I'm not even sure that T.F. Pete would accept that one!

Jim,

I'm with Ken on this one... unless you want to say you bought a Hamilton Salesman case and got a free movement... it's pretty much a loss.

I like the movement. Usually you don't see the private label name on these Getty movements, primarily on the dial. Hartdegen was a high end jeweler from the time Newark was a more affluent venue. I have a (broken) 18s Meylan with their name.

This is restorable and with the double-signed movement would certainly be of interest to a Illinois and/or P/L collector.
