watch history requested

1. 2 MJ Tobias watches both marked patent lever, full jewelled, MJ Tobias, and Liverpoole. Does anyone have any history on this watch company

2. 2nd watch is marked Cylindre, Augiller, and Quarto rubis

Any historical information of these watches would be greatly appreciated. Tom

Welcome to the site Tom.

Perhaps others can shed some light on your watches, photos would help us to try to determine what you have.

On the Tobias ones, there was a M.I. Tobias but from what I have read the M.J. Tobias were actually Swiss watches using the name M.J. Tobias Liverpool but such a person might not have actually existed. Originally the Swiss were not known for their watches as they are today.

The lever part means the watch has a lever escapement.

On your other watch, cylindre means it has a cylinder escapement, I am guessing the Quarto means it had four jewels.

Others might post some more info. & perhaps correct any mistakes I have made.

As I said welcome to the site & again photos would help.

Tom
