Waltham 7j Valentines Day Special? "Click" to Login or Register
posted
Hi - Really enjoy reading these postings...Now I may have one of interest. Purchased on Ebay 1902 Waltham 7j in Hunter Case. I wanted the case for my 1907 17j PS Bartlett. The 7j has a broken staff.
When I took the movement out, I found that it has Damaskeening in a HEART shaped pattern...Mainly being a Hamilton/Howard collector, I was not sure if this was unusual? (OR worth anything?)
What do you think (could Sheila G like this?)
Photos herewith...

What about the Damaskeening on the BOTTOM Plate also - is that unusual? Smile

Little hearts around the AWW Co... Would make a nice Valentines Day Gift!? (OR should I resell on Ebay) I do like the bottom plate work, as well

You have a bunch of parts there, case screws, movement screws and wheels, hands, a dial, not to mention the cannon pinion, etc., etc. I would save that for the time when you need this bits and pieces.

Could you explain your reply, I know it is only a 7J watch but what is wrong with it, Phil says all the numbers match & I agree with Phil that the over all pattern looks nice.

Sorry, I read the post as if Philip bought this for the case to use on another watch, and as this one had a broken staff he was planning to give it away with the comment about nice damaskeening.

This watch is at least a very good parts watch, or if re-staffed and cased, it is a great "gift" piece. I did that with a similar Waltham for my Grandson Alex last year along with a "picturebook" and story, he loves it and told me that "now I don't have to look at my cell phone to see what time it is"! The 7j 1899-1908 mvt is very robust.

Thanks David

I might have misunderstood too, I thought maybe you had noticed something about the movement that made it worthless. I am still learning & just wanted to make sure I understood.

Thanks David for letting me down gently....Not having seen many Walthams I did not know if this was unusual 'artwork' or not!...Yours looks to have the same top plate work, but different (fishscale?) on the lower plate.
Yes Tom, I have ordered the staff, and will do a clean and fix for practice - being a newbie! Then, if it times up OK will perhaps put it in a light case for my Son. I really enjoy getting a movement 'ticking' once again... Cheers Wink
