My Elgin Convertible
I picked up a Elgin convertible on ebay awhile back. It wasnt a pretty sight, but for $40 including shipping it was mine.

After taking it all apart and cleaning an issue popped up that Dave helped me with. I also changed it to be an open face watch since thats what case it came in, and I love silveroid.
Another purchase of a parts movement ($22) and a spare dial I had its back together and running like a champ. I will look for a replacement dial as its not a prefect match, but better than the one that was on it.

Here is a shot of the movement, serial #6336287. I just love 3 finger bridge movements.

Hey Jim,

Nice looking watch! My favorite movement.
What type dial are you looking for?
I may have one like the one it came with.

Thanks for the offer Steven. How much do you want for it?

Thanks Jerry, This is my first convertible. I have wanted one since I first saw one. But they always have been out of my price range.

Jim,
Here's the dial. It has a small scratch between the 3 and 4, otherwise no chips or hairlines.
If you want I'll send it, you check it out. Smile

Thanks for the offer and thinking about it. Sorry, I lost track of this post of mine. I did find a good dial about a week after my last post when I bought a dozen parts movements.

No problem, Jim, I already have a new place for it.

Pardon my ignorance, but what, exactly, is a convertible and how does it work?

Hi Christopher,
Its a movement that can be changed to either a hunter movement with the winding at 3, or an open face with the winding at 12. Here is a tutorial that explains how its done: Elgin Convertible Conversion Tutorial . They are kind of interesting and when I learned they existed I wanted one.

Thanks, Jim. I thought they could be changed from 12:00 to 3:00 but I couldn't figure out how they did it. Pretty ingenious!
