I've got me a 992b "Click" to Login or Register
posted
I have just received a splendid 992b in a No 15 case, it's a Christmas present from my wife and sadly, after unwrapping, has been has been secreted away until the appropriate time ConfusedNot happy with this arrangement but seeing as she is paying there is not a lot I can say to alter the situation. I got it from one the exalted members of this forum and at the risk of currying favour have to say that I could not wish to have bought from a more straightforward honest person, I knew when bidding there would be no problem, something you cannot say about everything/dealer on ebay!
You may have noticed that I have not submitted lately to this excellent club, not that my submissions are worthy, more likely causing a few furrowed brows with my stupid questions but since having the benefit of the knowledge and experience so freely available my knowledge and confidence has grown expotially. Until joining this club my knowledge of Americam watches was very limited, here in Europe the Swiss are the measure of excellence but now having (albeit a limited look and feel, thanks to it being put away!) Mad first hand experience of the 992b,I have to say it is one of the best made and designed movements, finish, materials, up there with the best. It just exudes QUALITY. The devil in me has to ask 'What happened' do we really progress!!!! Are the Chinese going to better this, call me old fashioned but I doubt it!!. Something of this quality is not being made today, if I am wrong please correct me

I cannot wait until Christmas and already tried with ' I think it may have stopped', 'can I just check out a couple of things!'. No avail, will HAVE to wait

It's great to have access to this forum/quorum, whatever the correct word may be, I feel I 'know' a lot of people here

Best regards

Congrats on your 992B Terry. I share your enthusiasm for them, that's why I have far more 992B's in my collection than any other model.

It's only about 7 weeks till Christmas. Wink

Best Regards,

Ed

Welcome back, Terry....it has been awhile but that matters not....I took some time off also, recently but it's like 'They' say about riding a bicyle you never forget how to do it and the same thing applies here at 185....you never forget how to do it....

Sounds like you are really excited about your new watch and you should be....I agree they, the 992B's are a work of art....and I also agree with the feeling If this is progress how far down do go before we start coming back up.... Big Grin

The Japanese tried it but went to electricity instead....

You have a wonderful Wife and I think she is correct in having you wait another month or so, it will just make the opening that much better....

Don't wait so long for your next post and show us the watch after you open the package at Christmas....

Regards,

Jerry

Thanks Ed/Jerry,great to hear from you, find it hard to agree with Jerry's thoughts about my wife's thoughts on waiting another month or so, that's a Loooooong time in my view! Far too long!!!
Is it too much to ask, just to hold it!.

My interest in horology lies in an underlying fascination with precision and how that is demonstrated in the things we produce. the 992b is a prime example, in my view of the application of design, engineering excellence and production.

Best

This gives you plenty of time to find you a good chain for it too! Congratulations! Sounds like you got a keeper there, Terry...wife AND watch. Smile

HIGH regards! Mark

Thanks Mark, appreciate your thoughts, indeed I am very lucky. Just CAN'T wait for Christmas now!

With regard to a 'chain' I was thinking of a simple leather one, any thoughts Confused. I intend to carry the Hamilton and am concerned that a metal chain will 'scar' the bow. It's in first class condition and want to keep it that way.
BTW I read somewhere on this forum that there is a replacement dial available that suits daily use better than the melamine dial, begins with 'R' something but cannot remember the full name.

Kind regards and best wishes

Terry
