B & B Royal case "Click" to Login or Register
posted
Hi All,
I recently picked up a B&B Royal case for my 1922 Father Time 16S. The trouble is that the notch is located at about 7-8 minutes and the father Time is at 5-6 minutes.
What was this case made to fit, & what kind of case should I be looking for ?
Thanks for any & all response.
Don

The notch I was referring to was of course for the hand set lever, that I neglected to mention.
I also thought I would try to send a picture.

Both the 16-sized Columbus and the Model 5 Illinois Getty have the setting lever at about the 8-minute-mark, whereas just about everybody else had it at the 6-minute-mark.

The second lever cutout on your case looks too far to the right to be either of those locations; looks to be the 10-minute-mark or higher.

Eric,
First of all, thank you for the information. The second cutout is at about the 13 minute mark.
Can the top cutout be enlarged to fit my movement or is that not a good idea ? But if so, do you have a ballpark figure on what that cost and who is qualified to do this.
Thanks, Don

Don if that case is yours and not for sale
you can cut the slot yourself with small file
but if you going to sale the case it will be at lowest price since it is with 2 slots

It is not uncommon to see cases where the main slot is wider than the width of the lever so that it can deal with the movements that do not have the lever in the same location.

Then some cases look like an angry beaver was turned loose on them. On this one I would widen the correct slot just enough to allow the Elgin to fit.

Claude,
Thanks for your input. After talking to Peter and You about widening the opening, I think I might try my luck and see if I can do better than the beaver.
Anyway, thanks again for responding and your help.

Donald your case may fit a Hampden as they used a lever set position lower than many manufacturers.

Thanks Deacon,
I'll keep that in mind if I decide to keep the case.

Don, I don't know why they cut that second slot way down there, as the other guys said, it should be at 6 or 8 minutes for a 16 size.I think they may have tried for the 18S position of around 11 minutes for some reason.

Ted,
I'm not sure why they did that either. I bought the case planning to put in a 16S Father Time. The location didn't even come close. Haven't decided what to do yet ..... send it back or, try to enlarge the slot.
Thanks for your response Ted,
Don
