It belongs in a Jewelry store. A beautiful 11 Jewel, "Show" model Hampden.

I agree David, that watch looks like it never left the store. A real time capsule from the 1880s that is in spectacular condition. Hard to believe a solid gold case can have so little wear on it. Very beautiful.

Beautiful example Lin. I'll say $2000 for the case, $300 for the movement, hands and dial. So ~$2300 is my guess.

Best Regards,

Well said Lindell, good golly! I agree, the case is as good as it gets. That is a fantastic watch that brought a fantastic price, congratulations to both buyer and seller.

I'm keeping the pictures on my hard drive, they are beautiful.

I tried finding this one in the 2008 Complete Guide to Watches. Could someone point out the exact page number/item I should reference as I didn't see a Gem of Genesee model listed. Thanks.

Welcome Duane!

I don't think you'll find it shown in the watch guide, or anywhere else for that matter. Some private labels are literally one-of-a-kind items, this one may be just that and perhaps we may never know the whole story. When I first saw it I wondered if the "The Gem of Genesee" referred to Genesee County in Western New York State.

No matter, the condition is "as good as it gets" and I agree with Don on congratulations!

Any other ideas as to "The Gem of Genesee" origins?

Lindell

This is just a thought, I notice there is a Genesee Street in Sprinfield Ma., from what little I know of Hampden didn't they start in Springfield? Any chance their factory was located on Genesee St.? Just a wild guess.
