While munchin on lunch and perusing the eBay picture Gallery, this THING came up . . .
The title said something about 19 Jewels and South Bend, and the picture looked like a 12s. So anybody who had a search engine screeening watches missed this completely and many who looked at it saw what looked like a 12s with some mumble about 19J so they passed on thinking it was worth no more than a "buck-two-fifty".
But . . . my last remaining brain cell said "HUH?", so I looked . . .

and "Whatta Movement" s/n983920, SIXTEEN (16) size, 19 Jewel Grade 219 certainly worth three times what I "lucked out" with my bid . . . I guess it still pays to look!

Good purchase with the 219. the case is very nice. I had this one on my watch list but decided not to pursue it because of the metal dial (yes, picky picky...) and I already have a couple very nice examples in my collection. 219's are very hard to sell most of the time as people do not pursue them for some reason. I have really had a hard time getting more than $100 out of them when I have sold them even in very nice shape. Don't be discuraged tho, I have seen some go for upwards of over $200.00. They seem to be one of those grades that can be all over the place on pricing. One day bring $60., the next bring $200 plus.
I will agree with David here that this was one I also threw out there as a 12s 429 grade at first due to the listing and first pic. As he pointed out, the other pics in the listing showed the true 16s 219 quality movement it is and not a very common 12s South Bend.

Beautiful, Dave! I think people overlook these because they're all hunting and pecking for lever-set RR grades. Absolutely nothing wrong with a pendant-set dress watch. It's a beautiful, well made time keeper. And besides, who's timing trains anymore anyway? Regards, Brad
