I have this oddball watch I'm trying to identify.Elgin dial,movement signed Advance.Can't find it under Elgin.Movement is almost a dead ringer for an 1888 Waltham.I'd like to find a proper dial for it but don't know what to look for.Thanks.Norm

Elgin did make a movement with the name Advance and made quite a few of them....

The serial number is-3084775.

Norm, I don't know what your watch is....Really....All the Elgin "Advance" watches were 18 size 11-13 jewels....

The Elgin database says that s/n 3084775 is a 6 size 7 jewel Hunter movement with no name just a grade 95 model 1 and made in 1888....there were 56 runs and a total 409,000 made from 1886 thru 1892....

Is your watch a size 6...?

This is actually a 16s 7J fairly scarce Model 2 Trenton with a fairly high collectible value. Oddly, some Trentons fitted Elgin dials, but then the feet could have been "adjusted". The movement is a close "hack" of the early Waltham 1888
