I found this Hamilton Electric Special at a flea market last week for $200 and bought it. All the Hamilton Electric Specials I've seen were with 974 mvts. This had a 992, but the BOOK makes no mention of a 992 Electric Special. Was this put together? Serial # 1,607,408 - about 1921.

I have always seen the Electric Specials with the 17J movements. These watches (Electric Specials) were produced for the trolly lines and the requirements were not as stringent as for the RR lines. So I would say there is a good chance it was switched.
It should be a 974 in there, but actually that is to your benefit. Find a 974 movement between 1922-1930 or so and just swap em out. I may actually have one if I dig a little.
Or another option would be to simply put a ds hamilton dial on this watch and have a nice 992, then find a decent WHOLE 974 and put the electric railway dial on IT, I have seen 974s sell with 992 dials on them as well, and finding one like that would be ideal then you would end up with two correct complete watches.
You've got good options here, James. Put a WTB ad here I bet somebody could hook you up. Good Luck!
