I just purchased this 21 jewel Illinois The Garland(I had to replace the 12s 21 jewel Diplomat I swapped with our own Frank Kusumoto for some watch cleaning services, seeing his work I really think I got the better end of the deal. AMAZING!) and wanted to know if anyone had some info on it? The only book I have currently is the Shugarts and it only lists a Garland as a 17 jewel. I will include several photo for the experts to review. Thank you all in advance for your assistance.
Among the very cool things about this watch is that "Garland" was a trademark of the Alister-Ball Co. of Chicago. It is listed as a 21j grade 274 which were made under a number of different labels, including Burlington Watch Co. and Santa Fe Watch Co.

John, Your watch is a 1924 grade 274 from a run of 2,000. This run has at least 5 named variants Penn Special, The Garland, The Master, Illinois Central and Gold Medal. Some of the 17 jewel 405 grade were also called The Garland, hopes this helps.
Thanks for all of the info on this beauty. I think I got a real deal on this one. Jim you say this watch was made 1924 from a run of 2000, what was the total production for the model 274?
