I recently purchased a very nice 936 and would like to get more info on it (run info, etc). The serial number on this watch is 637121.

What I found interesting about this watch is that it is marked the same as a fully marked 940.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi Bruce,

Congratulations on finding a fully marked 936 as they are an excellent and often underrated movement.

Your number 637121 is from 1909 production according to Hamilton records. The 17-Jewel 936 was Hamilton's very first Railroad Grade watch. Produced from the dawn of Hamilton production in 1893 just over 18,000 were completed by 1920 when 17-Jewel watches were no longer permitted to enter time service and it was discontinued from the line. By that time 18-size watches had essentially fallen out of favor. The only 18-size to stay in Hamilton's line through the 1920s was the 940 of which over 200,000 were produced by 1928 when they would be the last 18-size movements sold by the Hamilton factory.

In the early years "Adjusted" said it all, as you'll see in the image below.

Hamilton 936 number 595 is a special favorite of mine...

Lindell,

Thanks for the information on the 936. I have always liked the looks of the 940's and when I saw 637121 this 936 I just had to have it. Here is a pic of the movement.
