How hairsprings work "Click" to Login or Register

The first url is from a site that explains how hairsprings work. Unfortunately, I don't exactly understand the explanation. If anyone can rephrase the part for me where the writer is actually explaining why, for example, a circular balance is better than a bar--or other places where he actually explains the formal properties that cause hairsprings to work in the particular way they do, and what that way is, I'd appreciate it.

The second url is kind of interesting.
