This was originally my Grandfather's watch. It is a Hamilton 918 size 12. I received it a while back in non-working condition -- rusted canon pin (if that's the correct term for the part that the hands attach to), rusty hands, severely yellowed crystal/plastic. I had the watch cleaned/serviced, cleaned up the hands, and replaced the crystal. It looks and runs like a champ now. Here are a few pics. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the approximate worth of this watch. I don't really plan on selling it, so a ballpark figure would be fine. Also, would it make sense to try and replace the dial? The current dial really has seen a lot of wear. I'm not sure I would even be able to find one, probably from another non-working 918. Thanks for viewing. Wally

Wally, Your 918 has an app. value of $75-$150 considering the dial condition and represents a wholesale/retail market value in a gold filled case[which assuming yours is]. Your watch has much more value as a family heirloom, and I would not hesitate to change or upgrade the dial condition to have a very handsome watch indeed If it were mine I would consider having the dial redone or perhaps trying to buy a dial. I do see one on ebay that I believe would fit your'e watch, but I am not 100% positive. Perhaps the gent selling it could help you with that info. I believe he is one of our own members[geno]seller ID. I would ask him and identify myself as an IHC member and see what he could tell you. The auction # is; 140370980297. Buying this dial will have you with a 916 movement, but if the dials interchange, I would probably use the hands and dial from Geno's watch and put the dial and hands off your'e 918 onto the 916 mvmt and either keep it for future use or sell it[your choice]. I think it would still make both watches correct but I am not an expert on the smaller Hamilton's[nor an ace either] Hope that gives you some useful information regards, bb

Hi Wally, nice watch..If it were mine I would probably opt to keep the original dial with the watch and have it refinished. International Dial would be my personal choice. If you do a search on this site under dial refinishing it might give you some other opinions. Good luck, Ray

Ray, thank you for the input, too. I will most likely go that route. Wally
