Well, I did it again, I won this one and have no idea if it is, what they say it is!!! Eek

They say it's an Elgin, Grade 265, and if it is, Wayne's site says there were only 500 made in this grade. You think this is correct?

Now I wait until it gets here. Anyone want to make a bet about if it's really a grade 265?

It works, and was the right price, so no loss if it turns out to be a cheaper Elgin.

Anyone else buy just BECAUSE............
and not know what it is for sure?

It will be very interesting to see this movement. I have no idea why Elgin made all of these only 10 or 20 at a time in one year (1895), excepting one 200 Pc run at the end.

Shelia,
I too buy items "just because" and it is known to get me into a bit of hot water with the Misses! Sometimes something just speaks to you, and you just go with it.
I have an Elgin, the first Pocket watch I bought, and it seems to be a "nurses" watch, and belonged to a nun, I think, by the inscription. It is in a silver case, with center second hand, and is cute as a button! and It is one of a thousand made, according to the Elgin database on the internet. It runs fine, and has done so for about 3 years now, probably overdue for a cleaning, and I only paid 35.00 for it shipped. I think that was the only sleeper find I have ever found!
That is a really fine looking watch you got a hold of! Good luck with it, and ENJOY!
Regards,

David,
Your post reminded me to look up the runs on it, which I usually do. Thanks!

Elihah,
I love to do the "gut feeling" kind of bids. It got me a Maiden Lane about a year ago, and the last one on ebay went for over $7,000.00 so sometimes it's a GREAT thing huh?

It's nice to see that someone else does what I do, because all in all, they usually turn out really nice. Congratulations on your find.

Most interesting is that it is in a "Cased and Timed by Elgin" Sterling Silver case, the movement would (by the 1934 dating of this) usually be in a wristwatch I would expect. I would guess that wristweatches were not part of a Nun's "habit" then, so they had these instead.

That watch looks incredibly like mine. It does have a different bail, and the inscription is only "Sister Luchia" or something like that. I will see if I can get a scan of it up for you soon.
