Hello Ken:

it sounds like you have a nice family heirloom, it would be interesting to see some pictures of it, and the serial number so we can date it. Your Fortune case would have been manufactured by the American Watch Case Co. of Toronto, Ontario and would be yellow gold filled.

Here are a couple of examples of the 18 size, 23 jewel Longines Express Monarch

This one has a Double Sunk 24-hour dial marked Longines Express Monarch

I also have another private-label Longines Express Monarch 18 Size, 21 Jewel, Serial No.1819819 manufactured 1906. It is marked JC Bernier Lake Megantic, Québec on the movement and JC Bernier, Lake Megantic P.Q. on It's Single sunk 12 hour Arabic dial, this is posted on my Canadian Private-Label thread along with other examples of Canadian Longines private labels.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier but luckily Larry answered & I saw his posts.

In the 1901 Canada census there was a David Racine born Jan 6, 1859 living in (I will list the entire line since I do not know what is important & what isn't) Quebec, Quebec, Quebec Jacques-Cartier.

He was listed as a horologer which I think is a jeweler or watchmaker to me?

He was married to Leda (Sep 28, 1864) with the following children, Julette April 1, 1892, Romeo Mar 30, 1894, Charles H. May 26, 1898, Cecile Mar 5, 1901

I will see if I can find further information.

Larry! Those are beautiful watches! They just "exude" greatness, reliability, and maturity. So nice.

Ken, I have a Racine line in my French Canadian ancestry. It goes back to Etiennne Racine out of Baie St. Paul. If interested in genealogy, contact me personally.
