I finally acquired an 18 size 24 jewel Bunn Special. I now have at least on of each of the 21, 23, and 24 jewel variety. This one is not in bad shape, only runs face down however, so this will be heading to Chris here shortly. It is in a display case so I am on the lookout for a fairly decent YGF case for this if anyone has any leads.

Here's the movement, nice bright spotted (fourth pattern) with about 7400 of these being made in 1896. Not easy to find these in a reasonable price range but this one wasn't to bad.

Nice pick, Steve. Where'd they put the 24th jewel, barrel cap?

Eric,

Yes, I believe you are correct. I have been looking for a deal on one of these for a couple of years and it finally turned up. I think it was a three day auction and ended in the middle of the day, not many lookers or the display case turned them off. Seems to keep great time only face down. I'm suspecting something going on with the outer balance jewel.

I like those big cheerful black-and-red Arabic dials.

Nice buy, Steve! Now you have one of each of the variants. How long did it take to assemble this part of your collection?

Mary Ann,

Like the 16 size Bunn And Bunn Specials there were also many variants (28 total just in the Bunn Specials). I am not as serious on the larger one but I have wanted to have one of each of the larger 21, 23, and 24 jewel models. There is also a 26 jewel but they are very rare, only 320 made, and command the big dollars if and when they do become available. I believe I saw on on one of the J & H auctions some time ago and that was the only one I have seen unless Lindell had one but I can't remember.

Thats what I'm saying. Unless I find one in a garage sale I'll probably never own one.

Where's the final two jewels? Did they just cap the 3rd and 4th wheels?
