Dewey Watches "Click" to Login or Register
posted
I do not know if this will interest you ladies and gents, but I thought it might at least catch your eyes!

The first watch is the Ingersoll "Dewey Dollar Watch", a model brought out in 1899 that shows 12 "men of the hour" on it's dial, with Admiral Dewey at the centre. It shows support of the American/Spanish war.

Actual example of the Dewey Dollar watch.

Around the same time, this watch was made from metal recovered from the wreck of the "Maine", the ship blown up in Havana Bay, the incident that started the war.

1898 and 1899 ads respectively.

Poor res, but you can just read the text, telling of the watches origins.

I wonder if any of you own one of these, as I have not seen one yet. Maybe you do own one, but do not realise you have a piece of American history in your hands. I would love to see one, if you do.
Well, hope you enjoy this little thread, and the ads and watches, and hope to see your replies, and hopefully a watch or two!

Regards, Bob.
