Here's an fairly long article I scanned from "The American horologist and jeweler" dated Feb. - Apr. '50. It's a tour of the Elgin factory written by Orville Hagans, the editor of the horologist magazine and a noted watchmaker himself. There's quite a few interesting details in the article. The images are large but I find that they print out just fine and are very readable from my cheap ink-jet printer. Just make sure to set it to print out at landscape setting and at about 90% or 100% scaling.

The quality controls that Elgin employed are quite interesting. If your are using the Firefox browser I highly recommend the "Image Zoom" add-on. It makes it very easy to view and read things on the screen without having to print it out or to import it into a graphics program. If there's any interest in more of these kinds of articles there's more on Swiss companies.

Thank you very much Frank. I printed this without much effort and it will go with my copy of Bill Briska's fine book about the Life History of Elgin Watch Co. (CC's Still available at Elgin Historical Society Museum through the internet.)

You're very welcome David. If you ever have a problem with the resolution that I've scanned something at and that is adversely affecting the print quality please let me now. I'm always willing to re-scan documents if they aren't proving useful in their current digital form.
