I picked up this nice beauty this week. This is one I've always wanted one of and found one at a price i can live with. The problem I have is that the book calls out the pennsylvania special 21j model in a getty model only and talks nothing about it being a model 9. Is the Pennsylvania Special easier or harder to find in the model 9 than the getty? Any estimates to how many were made in model 9's? I'll post better pics after cleaning, etc. may be a few days though. Thanks, Jared

That is a tough one, Jared. Blue book shows it as a Model 9 Grade 107 3033000-3034000 run of 1000 and says all were Burlingtons. When I go to PS private label, they show no 107 May be a catalog watch like the Burlington of which some were ordered marked this way? I'm kinda curious as well, maybe someone can take it further.

This two tone 21 Jewel, 5 position, model 9 included in grade 107 "Burlington" production has to be Lever set. (the lever set is the only distinction between the pendant setting model 7 and the lever setting model 9) That being correct, from the "Gold Book" and reading "between the lines" this is a small very high grade "extra run" that must be a VERY rare Model 9 lever setting 5 position adjusted variant separate from the other small production of 21 Jewel Illinois 16s grade 606 model 7, 3 position Pendant setting Pennsylvania specials. Judging from the 100 or so Pendant setting Pennsylvania Specials that are really worth Thousands of dollars, I would estimate a minimum insurance value of $3-4000 for this beauty in exception to the slightly lessor value inferred by the rather coarsely described version referred to in the P.G.

Looks Like "Home Run...Waveland Avenue" for you, Jared...congrats! When I first saw the # and adj 5 positions spelled out I was thinking along the same line as Dave...seeing as how the serial # is literally squarely in the middle of the run, I'm guessing a total production of 10-100? Either this was the last in the run (3,033400-3,033,500?) or the first (3,033,500-3,033,600?)...just a hunch, could be anywhere from 10-100 in this "extra" run as ref by Dave. CHECK YOUR 107 BURLINGTONS IN THIS RUN, EVERYBODY. That may be the only hard evidence we may have as to production by the #'s. Long shot, but you never know. This is what makes Illinois the most fun to collect IMO

Thanks guys. Thats about all the information I could find too... only other model 9 I can find came from an abe lincoln run a little later than this one. It sold on jones horan in 2006 for about $2500... I think it at least gives me an idea where the market is on it. Thanks, Jared

That’s a nice looking watch Jared. It’s an A. Lincoln grade. Since it’s a model 9 it should be easy to find a period correct case. The Getty model grades were the 175 and A. Lincoln which is valued higher by about twice as much in the Meggers and Ehrhardt Illinois Watch Co. book. The 175 grade was not adjusted to 5 positions so it seems that is the Getty being referred to in the Price Guide. The 23 jewel would be Sangamo or Bunn Special grades so I would value the watch somewhere between the Getty listing and the 23 jewel. RR Meggers and Ehrhardt Illinois Watch Co. page 118

Jared, I didn’t see your last post as I was writing. It looks like my conclusions are confirmed in your findings. RR
