Can anyone help me please?
This symbol is on the back cover of a Elgin hunter pocket watch.
What is the meaning of this symbol?
Thank you.

Thank you very much Lorne. I suppose double stock means gold filled.

Hi Bulent,

what I think you have is a gold case constructed of two layers of gold with a different gold content, not a gold filled case...Keith

Bulent, Keith is 100% correct and according to Mfg.'s specifications will assay at 10k solid gold....and futher states that none genuine unless stamped with the " Sheaf of Wheat and B.W.C. Co." which yours obviously is....

Great find my friend....

It would be nice to see the outside of this case, front and rear....

Have a great New Year....

Yes, I had to check but Keith is correct. Brooklyn described their Granger and Wheat cases as "Double Stock" meaning two layers of gold of different purity. The Wheat is listed just under the 18K & 14K solid gold cases so was on of their better models. They had others described as gold filled.

Here is but three of the BWC Co solid gold cases, they made many....

They also made the solid 8k gold case, The Eagle, "Guaranteed not to Tarnish" plus the Windsor case, "Cheapest Gold Filled case made"....

Made in the late 1800's around 1888 or so....

Jerry

Hi Jerry, Lorne and Keith,

Thank you for your interest. I purchased this watch from Ebay Turkey at 2008 as solid gold watch.
I am attaching front and rear of the case.

I am selling all my collection of pocket watches at Ebay under the name norel2233.

My new hobby is tower clocks and old skeleton clocks. I try to find clocks not restored and having some broken gears. In this way I pay really very small amount. (1000 to 2000$) Reproducing the broken part is very simple for me. I am making them in my company.

The main reason to loss my interest for pocket watches is that I did not master balance repairs.

A great new year to you and to all members.
