Got to get in here with the Big Boys and their goodies Smile BTW, want to thank Eugene B. and Barry H. for being MIA today Smile

Picked this little diamond in the rough - in a box of "stuff from the basement of a house" at an estate sale. WGF case w/ Rigid Bow and Kite Hands were some nice clues to what was under the hood...

And this PL Longines from St. Louis 18.89m 17j 5 Adj

Quick Pic -

Movement is filthy - but you might be able to see there is a gold tone on the balance arm and center bridge at the tip (past the center wheel)

Jon, regarding your Sangamo Special 17s, I am confused, a state with which I am not unfamiliar. Clear me up.

Pg. 297/298 in the Fatty show Model 10 16s and Model 13 17s.

Model 10 has the balance jewel screws in line with the regulator arm and Model 13 has them perpendicular. So I look at your watch and the think it is a Model 10 16s.

Then I do a search and find for size 17 and find this: https://ihc185.infopop.cc/eve/f...263991767#7263991767 and the last post leads me to this: https://ihc185.infopop.cc/eve/f...1029912/m/4231069691 which at the end shows 3 model 13 movements and they all have the screws in line with the regulator arm which takes me back to the book and thinking the movements at the end of that thread are all Model 10 16s.

Where did I go wrong?

Lorne,

The information in some of the IL databases gets confusing. I am not that smart, so I usually just look at the balance arm. If there, is a line (sometimes red) going around the outside of it, then it is usually a 16sz, if no redline then in theory should be a 17sz. Unless someone has played swap out the balance arm.

This might be helpful:

Eugene,

Got that one (992B brown box), too... But one individual bellied up to the bar, and made me pay up. Most of the folks were there for the 2,000 ounces of silver, which my wife wouldn't let me stay for... Frown

Wow, the ones above are impressive, Like them a lot. Great beauty and engineering.

Hamilton 974 Special with a great Montgomery dial, needing a hand. And a good COA.
