What is the flutter in 21 jewel watch? I collect 21 and 23 jewel watches and when they are fully wound, I have noticed that there is a flutter in the 21 jewel watch when you hold it to your ear and shake it--it flutters only a little while and then goes back to normal rythem. I have heard that a good 21 jewel will do this, is this statement correct? Why does it not happen with the 23 jewel or have I not noticed it? Thanks in advance--Best Regards!! Tim

One possibility is that these is to much end shake on the balance and its moving. End shake is up and down movement of a shaft. The sound would be the hairspring or balance wheel hitting something as the shaft is moving.

The watch keeps perfect time, it only does it when it is fully wound and I was just curious as to why it does this in the 21 jewels and not 23 jewels. Has anyone else ever noticed this? The watch I noticed it in is a 23 jewel 992b. Thanks, Tim.
