If you can tell, I would like to know what the name on this watch is. I don't know much about Hampden's and could use some information. Serial Number 3193066 Sheila

Shelia Don't feel bad. Many people have a hard time reading the Wm. McKinley name on the plates. The Wm McKinley grade was one of the more prolific 16 size Hampden grades ( I did see a 12 size prototype) and consists of both open face and hunters--Model 4 & 5. Both 21 jewel and 17 jewel Wm. McKinleys were produced. Total number of blocked serial numbers was between 140,000 and 180,000. Your watch is relatively uncommon with between 4,000 and 5,000 reserved serial numbers. Some of the 17 jewel Wm. Mckinleys were lever set .These watches ( Model 4) would have been approved for Rail Road Service--both Hunter and Open Face were "Adjusted". An ad from 1905 shows a 21j Model 4 Lever set Wm. Mckinley movement selling for $53.34 while a 17 jewel ( "guaranteed to pass railroad inspection) while a 17 jewel pendant set movement sold for $29.34. A 17 jewel Gen. Stark sold for $22.68. In 1917 a 21 jewel Wm. Mclinley sold for $34.20 If you decide to sell it please let me know. Hope you have a good holiday. Bob

Brian, Robert, Sorry for the delay, I didn't get an e-mail for your posts. Thank you for the wonderful information, I can't wait to get it, so I can see what it really looks like. I had to get them to send me a picture to my e-mail address and still could not see the name, but I won it so I'm looking forward to seeing it, especially with the great information you guys posted. The case is really bad on it, but the movement looked ok to me, and they say it does work, so we will see. Thanks again, Sheila
