I received this as part of a watch deal. I googled the name but came up empty. Would you be able to help me out? The inscription is a little fuzzy.

Not sure yet if this is him;

1910 Census Glenville, Schenectady NY
J. Leon Hoose born about 1886 in NY an engineer at electrical works.
living with his wife Mabel at her parents house, they were Llewelyn Ford & Lettie Ford.

Isn't Scotia in the same county?

Hey Tom,
I live in "Scotia" but I really live in Glenville. There is a village of Scotia. My zip code 12302, will pull up Scotia, Schenectady & Glenville. They are all within 4 miles of each other. It is about 20 minutes north of Albany & 25 minutes south of Saratoge. Send mail to me to any of those towns & I will still receive my mail. Go figure...

PS. General Electric head quarters was located in Schenectady & employed 40,000 people at one time.

Thanks James

At one time I lived 30 miles west of NYC but never figured out where any place else was.

So, Ed, this might be the right guy, with the title of enginneer he would have had a college education so he would have been an Officer in WWI.

I will keep looking for more.

Thanks Tom,
I do believe you have the right person.
It is always inetesting to me to link and object with one of our ancestors. Many of these people led very interesting lives.
I have always thought I would have been better suited if I had lived during that time period. Wink

Me too, I always say I should have lived out west in the 1880's, my wife always says I did.

I found James Leon & Mabel in the 1930 census for Scotia, Schenectady, NY. It shows he was born about 1886 & his wife about 1888, there son James was born about 1911. James Leon is listed as design engineer for a turbine manufacture company.

Tom,
I bet he worked for General Electric. At one time they had a huge plant in Schenectady, NY.
The watch came from Florida. I bet he retired there and when he passed the estate was sold off.
The little box it came in is marked for a jewelry store in Schenactidy. Inside is a credit card recept for a purchase from Reflections in Time, Inc, Sunrise Fla. Dated 1993.
Thanks again,

Your welcome Ed.

I wonder if it was the some James that moved to Florida, I did a little more searching & it looks like James Leon was born March 22, 1886 & died Sep. 1963 in New York.

His son James was born in 1911, I will see if I can figure out what happened to him.

Well not to sure how it got to Florida, some relative I would guess.

There son was James Llewellyn Hoose, he was born 22 Sep 1910 in NY & he died 5 Oct 1980 in Sacramento Ca.

Also if I didn't mention it in an earlier post his mother's maiden name was Ford.
