Rare American Waltham Variant?!?! "Click" to Login or Register
posted December 03, 2010 00:37
Here's one that almost got away. Could be the only "marked" 17 Jewel American Waltham Watch Co. 1883 in that serial number range. What a find indeed! Confused

I'm not sure that "rare" is the right word.

This is not anything against you, Carlos, but My gosh...."17 Jewels" is scratched in to the plate and then a Sharpie black marker is used to color in the scratchs....One of the most amateurish attempts to change the makeup or rariety of a pocketwatch that I have seen in a while....Boy, what some folks will do to try to modify an item....

As Edward said, "Those Finger Prints Make It Priceless."

Hang in there Carlos....

Regards,

Jerry

That is so sad. Who in their right mind would think that would pass as being real?

I have seen this before where people have a 7 jewel watch and mark it higher jewels. Ruins it for me. Mad

There just has to be a better place to practice engraving.

Unfortunately its obviously not the original case; that really spoiled it for me. Smile I wonder what this fella can do with a GF case! This person needs to be on Abbe's sknunk list.

The watch has officially been donated to my 9 year old daughter for practice. Smile She said it can be fixed!
