Hamilton 992B Crown Wheel Screw Question "Click" to Login or Register

I bought a 992B made about 1962 & there is some problem under the crown wheel that I need to look at but the screw holding it in place won't budge. Are these left hand threads, I thought most crown wheel screws were but I don't want to put a lot of torque behind it until I am sure. Is there some trick to the later designed 992B's in getting the screw out?

As far as I know the 992B is a right threaded screw ! You have to turn counterclockwise!

Gerald is absolutely right!

When they introduced the all-new 992B in 1940 one of the important features that had to be explained to experienced watchmakers was that unlike with previous models every screw in the new movements were right-hand threaded. And that is vital to know... Tom did exactly the right thing in being cautious.

Turning the 992B crown wheel screw anti-clockwise will release it just fine.

"Measure twice, cut once" ...as the woodworkers say!
