Following Gary Foster's Pitfalls lead I picked up this Illinois "Chieftain". There are several features that "caught my eye".
Gold plated Movement, very rare coming from Illinois Watch Co.
Rare fifth pinion movement, Mentioned as quite valuable (as a 5th pinion movement) in the Gold book due to the finish work.
All original appearance with hand-signed and scaled dial
Deuber Coin Silver case
This finish work was all done to a S/N452158 11 Jewel Grade 3, Model 3 OF Movement made in 1882.
Some earlier "Chieftain" movmeents were also done as Key Wind Illinois movments.

About 20% of the 5650 movements Illinois made in this grade were finished for Standard and Independent Watch Co., Fredonia, NY
When it comes, I will report more . . . Thank You Gary

Way to go Dave. I had placed a snipe bid for $122.88 for this watch but when I saw you wanted it I pulled the bid. I sure am glad you got it. I can't wait to see your report on it.

Hi Dave, glad to see you got it, can't wait to see the restored Chieftan, I try to pick out sleepers and if it's something I'm not after, I'll pass it along.
